Assigning Interior Addresses
for New or Existing Commercial Buildings

NOTICES

Allow one week to 10 days to get certified addresses assigned once a plan has been submitted to MPC Addressing Department.


When interior spaces are reconfigured in an existing commercial building, existing addresses and/or suite numbers may be subject to change.

 

Requirements For Obtaining An Address For New Or Existing Buildings

    1. A site plan map with correct map identification number
    2. Four (4) copies of the site plan map for each floor
    3. Name of person requesting the address and their telephone number written on the plat
    4. The number of floors in each building

 

The Site Plan Must Show The Following:

    1. The interior wall layouts of all suites within each building and for each floor
    2. Placement of the building on the property
    3. The name of the street or right-of-way where access to the property is located
    4. The name of the closest lateral street
    5. Identify each suite with a layout number or letter in numerical or alphabetical sequence with the names of each business identified on each suite
    6. For existing buildings, the names of businesses that no longer exist must be indicated for removal of that name in the GIS database.

 

Special Requirements For Interior Addresses

    1. By Ordinance, addresses are assigned from low to high and must be used in the order assigned
    2. Characters of the alphabet (A,B,C,) are not allowed for suites or apartments. They are used only for utilities and cellular towers
    3. Partial numbers such as ½ are not allowed.
