SOUTH CITY SECTOR PLAN: The Development Plan

SPECIAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY AREA:
MARYVILLE PIKE CORRIDOR

 

Objective: Designate the area along Maryville Pike from the intersection of two railroads to Joe Lewis Road as an industrial district.

Proposals:

  • Relocate housing in the industrial district to appropriate residential areas (utilize Empowerment Zone funding).
  • Consolidate smaller lots to create larger properties for industrial development.
  • Make Maryville Pike and Sims Road a commercial center to provide services for area employees and residents in adjacent neighborhoods.
  • Add sidewalks on Sims Road to connect the commercial center to adjacent neighborhoods.
  • Screen unsightly outdoor storage areas along Maryville Pike with planting strips through a street tree planting program.
  • Formulate a cleanup and redevelopment strategy for existing superfund sites along Maryville Pike after final report release by EPA/TDEC in mid-2002.
