Multifamily Housing
  • Single-family residential homes occupy the largest percentage of land in this sector.
  • The largest category of growth is residential development. Between 1995 and 2000, 99 acres of land were added for residential use. About 1/3 of this acreage is for single-family and 2/3 is for multifamily development.
  • Four new apartment complexes were built in this period, adding 510 units to this sector. They are: College Park (1993)
  • 192 units Flenniken Square (1996)
  • 42 units One South Place (1997)
  • 72 units Sterling University Heights (1998)
  • 204 units In particular, the College Park and Sterling University Heights apartments were developed to provide housing for University of Tennessee students.
  • MPC’s Development Activity Report also shows that 539 multifamily building permits (including duplexes) were issued to this sector between 1991 and 2000.
