Despite
a decline in population between 1970 and 1990, South City Sector
has gained 797 people with a 4.5% growth rate between 1990-2000.
However, four of the five census tracts had declined in population.
-
Tremendous
growth occurred in census tract 8 which added 1,425 people for a
69% increase during the last decade. MPC’s Development Activity
Report showed that 643 net residential building permits were added
to the South City Sector between 1990 and 1999. This included the
completion of two large apartment complexes in mid-1990.
-
If
the current growth rate continues, South City Sector is projected
to add over 900 people, or 430 housing units in each decade between
2000-2020.
