- The South City Sector
does not meet the NRPA close-to-home park standard (6.25 acres per
1,000 population).
- Fort Dickerson Park
is a natural area with significant historical value but is considered
underutilized by area residents.
- Linking existing parks
and the waterfront with new greenways can be a catalyst to stimulate
growth for the sector.
- Ijams Nature Center
is the only nature center in the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical
Area to provide a facility for outdoor and environmental education.
Ijams provides an important linkage to the existing and future greenway
system for the sector and Knoxville.
- Ras Neal Field was renamed
Gary Underwood Park to honor City Councilman Gary Underwood. A new
greenway will be added to the park.
