CHANGES SINCE THE LAST SECTOR PLAN UPDATE

 

Multifamily Housing
  • The sector gained population in the last decade after a decline in population from 1970 to 1990.
  • 510 multifamily units were added in the last decade. Over three-quarter of the added units were intended to provide housing for University of Tennessee students.
  • No new offices were built in the last 5 years.
  • Between 1995 and 2001, about 7% of industrial space was added. However, this sector lost 7 acres of industrial land use.
  • Approximately 487 acres within this sector were designated as being within Knoxville’s Urban Growth Boundary and 159 acres were designated as being within Knox County’s Planned Growth Boundary.
  • Three of the four elementary schools have declined in enrollment between 1995 and 2001.
  • South Knoxville Elementary School is 62% under capacity.
