Planning Notes

Park Plan
The Knoxville-Knox County Park, Recreation and Greenway Plan was adopted by MPC at their December 2009 meeting. This plan marks the first time the city of Knoxville and Knox County have created a joint plan. The adopted plan contains recommended 5- and 15-year greenway priorities as well as a short-term improvement program for existing parks that outlines recommendations for specific improvements.

Congratulations
Transportation planner Katie Habgood and her husband welcomed their second daughter, Alice Stirling, on November 23.

Annual Report
The Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2008-2009 is now available in the MPC Library and online.

Commissioner Training Sessions
MPC has begun hosting periodic training sessions for the commissioners that will be held four times a year. Each session will feature MPC staff from one of the internal divisions. The first session, held in October, featured the recent efforts of Information Services, including the MPC website, the agency’s social media efforts, and the new KGIS tools.

One Year Plan
MPC staff will be hosting a series of public meetings to present the proposed changes to Knoxville’s One Year Plan, all meetings begin at 6 p.m.: Feb. 10 – South Sector, Dogwood Elementary School; Feb. 17 – North, East, Central Sectors, New Harvest Community Center; Feb. 24 – West, Northwest Sectors; Bearden Middle School.

MPC Executive Committee
Robert Anders was elected as the new MPC Chair at the December meeting. Trey Benefield will serve as Vice Chair.
