MPC Assists Redistricts Efforts

MPC staff will be providing information and support to the Knoxville City Council, Knox County Commission and Knox County School Board as they undergo redistricting in light of information provided by the 2010 Census. Excel and GIS users interested in developing their own redistricting plans or conducting other types of population analysis can download the Census Bureau’s 2010 Redistricting datasets from the MPC website. These datasets include population, race, and housing unit counts at several geographic scales. The Knox County Election Commission has set up a website, www.knoxredistricting.org, which will serve as a redistricting information clearinghouse for all three legislative bodies. As each of these bodies proceeds through its redistricting process, this site will be used to provide background data, give notice of upcoming meetings and post redistricting plans as they are developed.
