Councilman Woodhall welcomed everyone, stressing the importance of communication in his opening remarks before introducing Dave Hill, Executive Director of MPC. Dave commended the group for participating and discussed TDOT'S desire to establish better relationships with communities. He noted that this planning process, if successful, can serve as a statewide model, and he encouraged the task force members to send a uniform message of self-determination and to have a fulfilling experience as community volunteers.

Councilman Joe Hultquist spoke briefly about how the group was coming together, getting to know each other, and discussing how to think together. Before turning the meeting over to the Leadership Knoxville facilitators, he added that many people on the task force represent a neighborhood group or constituency, and reminded them to report information back to their groups and neighborhoods so they will know what is happening.

The task force members briefly introduced themselves, including some new members and members who were unable to attend the first meeting. Based on the first meeting's timeline exercise "You Have to Look Back Before You Can Move Forward" (positive and negative aspects of south Knoxville history and memories) facilitators mentioned History, Pride, Progress and Attitude as being key themes. In a Take Forward/Leave Behind activity, the group discussed what features were most valuable and should be preserved, and also what aspects were less desirable and could be left behind. The task force then broke into 4 smaller groups to discuss the process, asking "If we got it right, what would it look like?" A representative from each group presented their vision to the task force at the end of the meeting. (ADD results)
Councilman Hultquist announced subcommittees membership assignments (Community Impact, Transportation/Mobility, and Economic Development) and noted that subcommittees will meet for the first time (TBA) soon after our next Task Force Meeting, which will be held on MONDAY, APRIL 12 at 5PM in the South Doyle Middle School Library. Councilmen Hultquist and Woodhull ended the meeting at approximately 7PM by thanking the participants and facilitators. The group was reminded to read the material in the Task Force notebook, and if they had any questions or needed more information to contact Renee Davis at MPC.
