Task force members, facilitators and staff enjoyed refreshments and informal discussion during a meet and greet social time beginning at 5 PM.

City Councilman Joe Hultquist, Co-Chair, started the program at approximately 5:30 PM by welcoming everyone to the third meeting, including new task force members attending for the first time. Introductions were made around the room. City Councilman Chris Woodhull spoke briefly about the purpose of the Task Force, asking "Why are we here – so many of us?" The group’s responses included: 1) to improve our community 2) because we are concerned about where James White Parkway will enter Chapman Highway 3) to find something that meets the needs of the community, and 4) more voices ensure a better outcome. He replied that for the group to collectively serve it’s purpose, ‘people stuff’ was the key, and reminded everyone that Leadership Knoxville knows how to bring people together. After reviewing the work done in previous meetings, facilitators led the task force in activities designed to help the group to interact and perform effectively as it focuses on issue analysis and development of recommendations for the James-White Parkway extension and Chapman Highway improvements.

Everyone present for the meeting, including MPC, TPO and TDOT staff, participated in the team building exercises. The participants also evaluated leadership characteristics based on "Learning, Thinking and Working Styles", and discussed how people with these various styles interact within a group. The facilitators encouraged everyone to take a copy of the "Learning, Thinking and Working Styles" assessment home and try it on someone else.

Councilman Joe Hultquist announced that our next task force meeting is scheduled for THURSDAY, MAY 6 at 5 PM in the South Doyle Middle School Library. He then reviewed the subcommittee membership, asking each group to get together to discuss the time, date and location of their first subcommittee meeting. At approximately 7:30 PM, Councilman Chris Woodhull closed the meeting by thanking everyone for attending, and also thanking Leadership Knoxville for the work they have to bring the group together.
